Fast Attack

Set Up

  • N/A
  • 60 X 40 yards
  • 4 + 2 GKs
  • Footballs, cones, bibs,  mini goals

Objectives

  • Improve quick counter attacking in the final third
  • Recognise how to exploit attacking overloads
  • Improve finishing skills under pressure

Details

  • 2 goals are placed a both end, mark out a 3x3 grid in the middle of the pitch using 4 cones
  • Players (attackers + defenders) work in pairs
  • The practice will start with the attacking players passing the ball back and forth, using one touch
  • Within the first 5 touches, one of the players will look to take a positive touch towards either goal, which will trigger the attack. They will then attack in the 2v1 situation and look to shoot and score a goal. The defender must look to delay them and stop a shot at goal
  • Each attack should only last 7-10 seconds
  • A technical ‘lead in’ practice before a wave/pattern/small sided game

Alterations

  • Second defender now becomes a recovery defender to make it 2v2

  • Positive mindset to attack quickly
  • Reaction speed, decision speed, action speed
  • Drawing a defender to get in behind, timing of pass/run
  • Finishing skills
