This presentation will discuss the use of constraints, rules, task and environmental factors that contribute to player development by giving players opportunities to experience learning. Further to that, Richard will discuss models of the constraints led approach and the multitude of coaching interventions. In addition, Richard will use his own examples and highlight how task and environmental constraints have contributed to elite player development.

Meet the Expert

Richard Allen

Richard is a Foundation Phase Academy Coach at Nottingham Forest and is extremely passionate about the constraints led approach, athletic identity and the use of performance analysis. Richard has over 10 years of experience working within the game, mainly at The FA working as a 5-11s Skills Coach and as an FA Tutor. Richard also has experience working in the women’s game as both a coach and analyst at Derby County and Nottingham Forest Ladies. In addition to being a UEFA B Licensed Coach, Richard holds the FA Advanced Youth Award, Bsc (Hons) in Sport Science and Coaching, is a qualified teacher and accredited Performance Analyst.
